Your Tax Dollars at Work

It's really too bad if you have to work for the Government, I mean those poor people are so underpaid. They just don't get anything approaching what those evil private sector people get. Well, if you "look it up" you will find that exactly the opposite is true.
In 2008, the average compensation (wages plus benefits) for a Federal civilian employee was $119,982 vs. the average compensation for a private sector employee of $59,908 (from the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis). The Federal employee's total package is more than double that of the private employee. So the next time you take a look at your pay stub and see all those Federal income taxes withheld, just remember where some of that is going. It's going to someone who on average is getting paid more than twice what you are getting paid and do you think they are working nearly as hard as you are?. Ain't that Federal Government just an absolutely wonderful thing? I mean they do so much for us!
