Gordon Brown visits Obama

Remember during the campaign how Obama said he was going to rebuild our relationships with European countries that George Bush supposedly destroyed. Well, early this past week, Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown visited Washington, D.C. to meet with President Obama. After their meeting the first snub to Brown was cancelling a joint press conference that is normally held after meetings with Foreign Heads of State. It is customary at the first meeting between the President and world leaders is for the two leaders to exchange gifts. Prime Minister Brown gave President Obama a decorative wood pen holder that was carved from wood from the timbers of the anti-slaver ship HMS Gannet. President Obama was very pleased and placed it on a desk in the Oval office which had been built from timbers of the Gannet's sister ship HMS Resolute and given to us by Great Britain. President Obama also returned a bust of Winston Churchill that had been in the oval office for the past seven years. President Obama returned the favor by giving Prime Minister Brown a 25 DVD set of American classic movies. Boy, a lot of thought went into that one. The Prime Minister could have bought them on Amazon.com.
Wasn't there a book written once that was called "How to Win Friends and Influence People". Perhaps Prime Minister Brown should have gotten President Obama a copy of that as a gift.
