Memorial day is coming next weekend and I would like to personally thank all past, present, and future members of our military for the outstanding job they do to keep us free. I only hope that our freedoms remain for generations to come. I hope these images set to this hymn, will help all U.S. citizens remember and see, "that 'Freedom' needs a soldier and is not 'free'."       They came home from defeating the Nazis and the Japanese and saving the world from despotism. All they wanted to do was get back to their lives, and what happened, they had to fight tyranny here in their home country. This happened in 1946 in the United States! This is why we have a Second Amendment to the Constitution. People who don't know or understand history are destined to repeat it. The way our country is going right now, this may start occurring again in many parts of our country, if people don't wake up and start holding the government accountable.

Jobs Plan Out of Hartford

Connecticut's unemployment rate at the end of last year was 8.2%. The Connecticut General Assembly is currently in session, and they may have come up with a way to produce dozens, maybe hundreds of new jobs (although they will be government, and probably union jobs). After the tragic Christmas day fire in Stamford, that killed three young girls and their grandparents, there has been legislation proposed that would require smoke and carbon monoxide in all residential buildings. What a great idea! Of course you should have those in your home. You'd be an idiot not to, BUT should this be mandated by the State. Absolutely not! This is like seat belts, cell phones, & motorcycle helmets. All great ideas, but has any state law ever stopped anyone from being stupid and not obeying these laws? At least these violations can be visually spotted by police, and the offenders pulled over, but how do you deal with the smoke detectors? Are we going to create a Department of Smoke Detector Safety? They would have to hire many inspectors to do those weekly/monthly inspections of all residential buildings. Now, those inspections run right up against the Fourth Amendment you know, "probable cause". How are these inspectors going to get by that? The same way they always do, ignore it until challenged in court, and more of your freedoms go out the window. The State Legislature is once again attempting to legislate stupidity, and they think that if they say so, it will be so. People will still not put detectors in their home or let the batteries go dead and then have someone die in a fire. It has happened in the past, and will happen in the future, law or no law.

Immigration, the Right to Vote, and Products of our Public School System

 In order for an immigrant to become a naturalized citizen legally in the United States a person must:

• Be 18 or older
• Be a green card holder for at least 5 years immediately preceding the date of filing the Form N-400, Application for Naturalization
• Have lived within the state, or USCIS district with jurisdiction over the applicant’s place of residence, for at least 3 months prior to the date of filing the application
• Have continuous residence in the United States as a green card holder for at least 5 years immediately preceding the date of the filing the application
• Be physically present in the United States for at least 30 months out of the 5 years immediately preceding the date of filing the application
• Reside continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization up to the time of naturalization
• Be able to read, write, and speak English and have knowledge and an understanding of U.S. history and government (civics).
• Be a person of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States during  all relevant periods under the law

Upon becoming a citizen, the person has earned the right to vote.

Now, people born in this country automatically have the right to vote, as long as they register, but after watching this video, I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps a person should have to pass the citizenship test or something similar in order to register to vote. It's very hard to vote intelligently, when you have no clue as to what is going on in the country or don't have at least a passing knowledge of how government works. What??????

I'm sitting here watching the local news, something my wife says I shouldn't do because I get so upset at the crap they call journalism these days. They did a story that apparently originated in the Journal "Nature". It was about a group that thinks sugar should be regulated like cigarettes and alcohol. Things like age limits to buy candy bars or soda. Give me a break!! Is there no end to government intrusion into our lives? How about we put Phys. Ed. classes back in schools? You know the courses that were taken out of the public school systems, so they could teach those self-esteem courses, and brainwash the the kids in other classes about Global Warming, oops, excuse me, now it's called Climate Change, the evils of Capitalism, and don't forgot those "evil" rich people. Put harsh restrictions on sugar and pretty soon we'll be dealing with Mexican Sugar Cartels. I have about had it! Anybody out there want to start a much needed Second American Revolution. Count me in. Let's start this November at the ballot box.
