"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams

Rising Star in the Republican party
A column by Mia Love (Congressional candidate from Utah) in "The Daily Caller"-
Let me tell you about the America I know. My parents immigrated to the United States with $10 in their pocket and a belief that the America they had heard about really did exist as the land of opportunity. Through hard work and great sacrifice, they achieved success. So the America I came to know growing up was filled with all the excitement and possibilities found in living the American dream.
Watching my father work odd jobs in order to provide for us and maintain his independence taught me valuable lessons in personal responsibility. When tough times came, he didn’t look to Washington, he looked within. Because the America he knew was centered on self-reliance. The America I know is founded in the freedom self-reliance always brings.
What makes America great is the idea that when government is limited, people are free — free to work, free to live, free to choose, free to fail and free to achieve. The America I know provides everyone an equal opportunity to be as unequaled as they choose to be.
The America I know gives back. Americans, regardless of financial status, are the most giving people on the planet. On their own, without government requirement, our people give their money, their time and their attention to causes, communities and people in need whether it is across the street or around the world.
The America I know makes tough choices. As the mayor of a small town in Utah facing its own fiscal cliff, we put limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility first in order to create an amazing community that could last. I have also seen that facing challenging choices head-on inspires our citizens to get involved, engage in meaningful dialogue, rally around shared values, do things differently and change the way government works.
Regardless of the difficulties we may face individually, in our families, in our communities and in our nation, the old adage is still true — you can make excuses or you can make progress, but you cannot make both! The America I know doesn’t make excuses.
The America I know is grounded in the gritty determination found in patriots, pioneers and struggling parents, in small business owners with big ideas, in the farmers who work in the beauty of our landscapes and the artists who paint them, in our heroic military and our inspiring Olympic athletes, and in every child who looks at the seemingly impossible and says, “I can do that.”
The America I know is great — not because government made it great but because ordinary citizens like me, like my father and like you are given the opportunity every day to do extraordinary things. That is the America I know!
Unfortunately President Obama doesn’t seem to live in or believe in the America I have come to know. His America is a divided one. He has taken class warfare to a new low. In an effort to distract our nation from his failed economic and social policies, he has attempted to pit us against each other based on the color of our skin, our gender, income level, age and social status.
For President Obama, job one has always been to keep his one job. His commitment to cling to power through division has put our nation and our future at risk. He obviously hasn’t learned the math of America — whenever you divide, you diminish.
The truth is that the president’s policies have made minorities and the most vulnerable in society more desperate and dependent on government, less self-reliant, less upwardly mobile and ultimately less free. His America is an ever-expanding nanny state that is simply unsustainable and unhealthy for our people, our economy and our future.
The president’s America is one where big-government Washington bureaucrats make healthcare choices, pick winners and losers in the marketplace and redistribute wealth. Whenever he faces a challenge, his answer is to create another federal agency, add a new czar and pile on more stifling and more intrusive regulation.
The America President Obama knows looks more and more like Europe and less and less like the America we know and love. I am in this fight not just as a candidate for Congress, but more importantly, as a mother, spouse and concerned citizen. President Obama had a chance to unite and lead this nation — and failed. We are not better off than we were four years ago and no rhetoric, bumper sticker or Hollywood ad campaign can distract us from the dreadful direction he is taking our country.
Americans know better and deserve more. Mr. President, the American people are awake and we are not buying what you are selling in 2012.
You see, the America I know deserves a leader who will respect and serve the people not because of their race, gender or economic status but because they are Americans! We need a leader who will unite the country around the principles that have made us great and will make us great again.
The America I know deserves a leader who believes this country is exceptional. We need a leader who believes our best and brightest days as a nation are still to come.

Change is Coming, and It's Not Going to be Good.
Got this as an email, and it makes a whole lot of sense. It's where we are headed!
I had a brief conversation with a female friend yesterday.
We were talking about the U.N. Small Arms Treaty, and what impact it
might have on America if the Senate were to ratify it. She, of course,
felt that it would have no impact. After all, the U.N. cannot simply run
around making rules, and neither can our President…. right?
So I
asked her, theoretically speaking, if the police or ATF showed up at her
door and demanded that she hand over her pistol, what would she do? She
said, “I’d give it to them”. Then I asked her, if in the process of
confiscating your gun one of them noticed that you’re kinda sexy and
asked you to take your clothes off, what would you do? She replied, “I
would probably rather fight and die if necessary.”
Now, to be fair,
the person in question has a very…how shall we say…”Hallmark Card” view
of sex. Which is her right. But my mind is a bit boggled by this thought
process. You would allow a stranger to walk in to your home and strip
you of your Constitutional rights… but your Levi’s are off limits. You
would give up something that has been yours by virtue of your
birthright, for 236 years. But you would not give up something you’ve
been giving up on a fairly regular basis for more than half your life? I
don’t get it.
There are a lot of people out there just kinda
stumbling through life. Whistling past the grave yard. Saying things
like,”The President can’t change the law just because he wants to”,
while the President is on television doing exactly that. They believe
that the way things are is the way they will continue to be. They think
freedom itself will defend freedom, and because something has not
happened yet it simply cannot happen. But we are on the verge of some
critical changes in this nation, and you and I, all of us, are going to
be called on to make some choices.
Liberals never quit, and they
never tire. They have one goal in mind and that is to force this nation
to conform to their view of how it should be. They mean to do that by
forcing you to live how they want you to live. (I’ll refer you to NYC
where they now determine how much soda you can drink). The day is going
to come when they do come knocking on your door asking for your guns.
And there is a reason I keep harping on this issue. Because once the
American public is disarmed, we will have no means to resist the tyranny
that those who seek to control our lives wish to impose.
You may
think these are the ramblings of a mad man. That is because you have
devoted your life to understanding all the ins and outs of American
Idol, while I have devoted mine to understanding what is happening
around me. Disarming the public is the first step that every government
that wishes to force the people to bend to their will must take. Because
an armed public is capable of resistance. A disarmed one is not.
Once the Second Amendment goes, the first and the fifth are soon to
follow. In fact, the First Amendment is already under attack right now
as I type this. So to those of you who own no guns, let me ask you
this. What will you do when someone from the government contacts you
about your Facebook posts, your blog, a letter to the editor? What will
you do when your right not to testify against yourself, or to face your
accuser, or to a speedy trial is rescinded? You will say, “That can’t
happen here, this is America.” Sure it can happen here, it can happen
anywhere. It has happened in Republics just like ours. Germany was a
free Republic before Hitler rose to power. Russia was not always a
communist nation, neither was China. And what do all these transformed
places have in common? Suppression of the populace, murder, rape,
torture. The law becomes what one man or one small group says it is, and
you can do nothing about it. And it will happen here, just as it
has happened elsewhere, because the people who believe it cannot happen
will sit home and do nothing to stop it. If you think that the law, the
courts, or the Congress will protect you, consider that the President
has recently changed U.S. Immigration policy and the Welfare Reform Act,
without a single vote being cast. He just directed the enforcement
agencies not to enforce the parts he didn’t like.
The Gestapo is
already at work in America. At least one elected official recognizes
this fact, but he was quickly pressured in to apologizing for and
rescinding his comments. They were however, true. You know them as the
TSA, but they perform the same function. Ostensibly here to protect you,
while they grope your goodies, steal your possessions, and make travel a
hassle that many of us choose not to go through. And they are coming to
buses, trains, and subways near you in the not so distant future. And
then what?
Well let’s see…. disarm the public, make travel difficult
in order to isolate and control them… put “panels” in charge of their
healthcare… Hell, all we’re missing is the freight trains.
The
simple fact is, the first person to stand up, the first guy to fight
back…will be killed. And several more after that. But eventually the
crowd will get too large to take them all out. If there are enough
patriots left in this nation to even form a crowd.
I truly wish I
lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave. But these days
the brave are few and far between. In China, one kid stood his ground in
front of a column of tanks. Meanwhile, you melt like butter in front of
an IRS agent. A man in that theater in Colorado laid his baby boy on
the ground, hopped the railing and fled the theater. Leaving his
“fiance’” and two children to face the gunman alone. These are the types
of people we must count on to save the nation? If so, we’re doomed.
Yes, friends, change is coming. Better get a new set of knee pads, you’re going to need them.

Sure Glad Someone Else Did it
Back in 1995, I found myself out of work due to a layoff. I was delivering newspapers and doing odd jobs to keep the bills paid. Something had to be done. So being a beekeeper and getting calls to kill yellow jackets and white faced hornets, which I couldn't do because I didn't have a license, and being very familiar with wildlife because of a lifetime of hunting and fishing, I decided to start a Pest Control business.
I started researching what had to be done. First I had to go take a written test, offered by the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection at the UConn campus in West Hartford., and then an oral exam at DEEP headquarters in Hartford, This was for a fee of $25. OK, that wasn't too bad. I got my General Pest Control license which covers ants, bees, wasps, fleas, yellow jackets, roaches, bed bugs, etc. Oops, now I have to go take a another test at a different division of DEEP, to get my my Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator's license. Fortunately, that one was free, although I have to pay $100 a year to renew it. Now, I also wanted to be able to do rodents (rats and mice) - another fee, another written test, and another oral exam. OK, now I have all my licenses. Now what?
Checked further and found out I have to get a Federal tax ID# from the IRS, then I have to register my business with the Connecticut Secretary of State's office. That wasn't hard, except for the $250 "business entity tax" I have to pay every year, along with an annual $20 fee to update my information, even if it hasn't changed. Now, I have all my licenses and I'm ready to go. Hold on, now I find out that I have to register my business with DEEP in Hartford. That's another $240 a year. Now I have to get in touch with AT&T, and sit down with a representative, to discuss a Yellow Pages ad. Can't get much business without advertising. Of course, the phone book only comes out once a year, so I have to wait for that to happen, before my phone starts ringing.
Next step is set up a meeting with my Attorney to set up an LLC, so I'm protected personally, in case I ever get sued. That cost about $500. Now I'm all set except for getting toolboxes and a ladder rack installed on my truck. There goes another $1200. Of course, I also had to buy pesticide supplies, traps, tools, ladders, etc.
All this was done before I killed my first wasp or trapped my first raccoon.
So I guess I really have to thank Obama, because if some one else hadn't done all this for me, I probably would have never started the business.
