Total Absolute Incompetence

The Gulf Oil spill is a tragedy of unspeakable proportions. Is BP responsible for the cost of the clean up. Absolutely! That being said, is everything possible being done to clean it up. Absolutely not!

1. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, early on, asked the Federal Government for permission to dredge sand  
    and create offshore berms to prevent the oil from reaching the marshes and destroying wildlife and their
    habitat. It took over three weeks before the permission was granted. It has now been stopped because the
    Government now thinks the dredging may be damaging wildlife and have ordered it stopped. By the way,
    the oil is now in the marshes.

2. A few days ago there were about 30 some odd skimmers working in the Gulf removing oil from the surface
    of the water. They were all shut down while the Coast Guard checked their crews for proper life jackets.

3. Speaking of skimmers, it seems that there are other skimmers around the country available for work in the
    Gulf, but the Government won't use them because there may be an oil spill where they are located.
    Remember, the Fire Department can't come put out the fire at your house because there may be another
    fire somewhere else.

4. Denmark, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and some other countries have offered state of the art skimmers, but
    they have been refused by "The Jones Act". This is an 1920's act to protect the U.S. Merchant Marine.
    Any ships working in U.S. waters have to be crewed by United States maritime workers.This act can be
    suspended by an Executive order by the President. So far it hasn't been done. How come? Union  
    protectionism,  maybe? Just asking. Do you know when it was last suspended? Right after Hurricane  
    Katrina by that "evil" President Bush. Just thought you'd like to know.

The "Disclose Act'

      A few months ago, the United States Supreme Court declared a law that prohibited Unions and Corporations from running campaign ads prior to elections unconstitutional. The House of Representatives just passed a new law which basically reinstates the law the Court threw out. This is how this arrogant Administration and Congress operate. They have absolutely no regard for our Constitution. It's just something that gets in their way, or they just totally make believe it doesn't even exist.
      
       Below is a email I just sent to Congressman Chris Murphy's office. If anyone would like to copy and paste it and send it to their Congress person, be my guest.

Dear Congressman Murphy,

       I just found out that you voted in favor of HR 5175, "The Disclose Act". When you took your oath of office you swore to uphold The Constitution of the United States. The First Amendment specifically states that Congress shall pass NO law abridging Freedom of Speech. How much clearer can that be?? It doesn't say it can pass some laws or laws we think should be passed, it says "NO" laws. You obviously have no respect for, or don't care about your oath to uphold the Constitution. You also have no respect for the Supreme Court of The United States. They declared this type of legislation unconstitutional and you go right ahead and pass a new law that will also be declared unconstitutional, but it will be in effect long enough to attempt to protect your "butt" in your re-election attempt this November. It won't work. I hope you get to extend unemployment insurance benefits because you will need them come next January. If you are going to reply to this with one of your silly form letters telling me what a wonderful job you are doing for me, don't bother. If you want to reply to the specifics of this email and let me know why you continue to violate our Constitution, be my guest.

Praying

Do you pray, even occasionally? While I am religious, I don't consider myself a zealot, I rarely go to church (although I probably should), I do pray sometimes and right now I am praying very hard that this guy runs for president in 2012. He would probably be the first person to win in all 50 states, especially in the current political environment.

Now, the Lame Stream media has been asking the Congressman this morning, "Did he feel threatened?", "Was he having a bad day". They were attempting to excuse his behavior and blame it all on the young men. To put it bluntly, this was unprovoked assault.
What would the Lame Stream media's reaction have been if he had been "Republican" Congressman Etheridge? Just asking!

It's Your Choice- Freedom or Subjugation

       We have many people in this country today who more or less just "go with the flow". They enjoy their freedoms, and expect them to be there forever. They don't pay attention to current events, don't watch the Local and National News on TV, don't read a newspaper (especially the Editorial page), and listen to the top 40 on their favorite FM radio station. This is known as Apathy. These people think they won't have to worry because someone else will watch out for them and make sure their "liberties" do not "go away" Well, it's time to start paying attention, because your liberties and freedoms are vanishing at an ever increasing rate of speed. There are not enough of us out there to watch out for you anymore. YOU have to start getting involved. Are you registered to vote? Do you vote? Do you know who your U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senators are? Do you know who your State Senator and State Representative is? Do you ever call their office to express your opinion on anything? Did you vote in the last referendum on your local school or town budget? Do you know the name of your local town or city government leaders? Do you ever write a letter to the Editor expressing your opinion?
       I heard about a  poll on the radio the other day that found that only 35% of people in this country could name any one of the nine U.S. Supreme Court justices. Only 1% could name all nine. That I find to be absolutely criminal. It is similar to the poll from a few years ago in which only 35% of United States college freshmen could find the United States on a World map. Is this the product of what we are getting out of our Public Schools today or is it that people just don't care as long as they can live their lives without anyone bothering them? There are hundreds of thousands of young men and women buried in cemeteries here and around the world who gave their lives so Americans can be free, and how do we thank them? We sit on our hands, and do nothing? I am beginning to think that the next time a crisis pops up, some fine young men or women are going to say "why, bother, no one cares anymore".        Get involved, even if it just means registering to vote and voting. Find out where the candidates stand on issues! Go to a Tea Party! Go to a Town Meeting! In this day and age, all and I mean "all" of that information is about 4 clicks away on the internet. November 2, 2010 is election day. People in Connecticut can find out deadlines for voter registration at http://www.presidentialelection.com/register_to_vote/connecticut.htm. People elsewhere can find the information with a few clicks. We can take our country back!!
       We must let those Statist, Progressive, Liberal idiots in Washington, D.C. know that we have had enough of their crap and that they are being consigned to the dust bin of History, forever. No more Chris Murphy's,  Dick Blumenthal's, Jim Hime's, Joe Courtney's, Rosa DeLauro's, or John  Larson's. Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, John McCain, et al. must go. We need to elect people like Marco Rubio, Sharron Angle,  & Pat Toomey in this election, and in all future elections. We want the country back to what was envisioned by men like Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison, and Sam and John Adams, when they wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. A land of personal freedom, personal responsibility, the ability to pursue our dreams without government interference, and a small limited government that stays out of it's citizens lives. Tyranny and Totalitarianism are not far away if we continue down the path we are currently on.!!

Homework Assignments

I am adding a list on the left called "Homework Assignments". This is a list of books I have read and highly recommend to anyone who is interested in finding out where the government is taking us today, or if you just want to catch up in case you didn't pay attention in High School or College American History or Economics classes, or maybe the school just never bothered teaching these courses like the  schools today. I will be adding to the list occasionally.

The Discount Store

      Let's say you have a list of things you need at the store, there's no rush, but you plan on getting them in the next week or so. When today's newspaper arrives there is a flier in it from that store that says there is going to be a big sale next week. Are you going to run right out and buy the stuff you need this week? Of course not, you're going to wait until next week when it's on sale. Conversely, if the flier says the current sale is going to end this Friday, are you going to wait until next week to go buy them? Of course not. You'll go buy them now.
      Now let's discuss President Bush's tax cuts of 2003. I know you're saying, "What in God's name are you talking about"? We'll get to that shortly. The only way Bush could get the tax cuts passed because of Democrat resistance to the cuts was to put a "sunset clause" in them. This clause said that if there was not further legislation to make the cuts permanent, they would expire and return to their previous levels on January 1, 2011. We're almost there. If nothing is done and it looks like nothing will be.done, your taxes are going to go up come January. Income taxes, Capital gains taxes, Dividend taxes, and the Estate or "death" tax. So what does all this mean. It could very well mean that the economy is going to go into the tank next year in a way that will make 2008 look like a summer picnic. Corporations, small businesses, and individuals are pulling as much profit or income as possible into this year (buying the stuff they need this week when the sale is on) and they will be doing everything possible to limit income next year (not buying stuff after the sale is over)so their increased taxes will have limited impact on them. That is why the economy appears to be improving right now. When those tax increases hit in January, the stock market will fall because of the lower profits of companies, consumers will consume less because of higher taxes and less money to spend, so demand for products will fall. Retail sales will plummet.  Without that demand, business production will fall resulting in further layoffs. The increase in taxes will cause economic activity to contract with the resulting decrease in revenue to Federal, State, and Local Governments. This will lead to further layoffs of teachers, police, firefighters, and State and Municipal workers.
      I'll go out a limb here and predict that by the end of next year the stock market will be hovering around 5-6000, unemployment will be around 10.5-11.0%, and the Federal budget deficit will be approaching $2 trillion (That's trillion with a "t"). Someone make a note of this and be sure to let me know if I'm wrong. On second thought, I guess I don't have to worry about that, I know there are people out there who will jump all over me if I'm wrong, but I won't hear a peep out of them if I'm right!

Warning! Warning! Warning!

      I was watching The Glenn Beck Show the other day (I know, you don't have to tell me, I already know I'm one of those foaming at the mouth, right wing radical Tea Partiers) and he brought up an interesting bit of information. There is a small publishing company out there that is selling copies of the U.S. Constitution, but it comes with a disclaimer that reads:

      I find this unbelievable. Sure, at the time it was written it contained material that would not be considered "right" in this day and age. At the time, there was a huge battle over slavery, because a lot of people believed, even then, it was wrong.
     For a very interesting read on the writing of the Constitution, pick up the book "The Summer of 1787" by David O. Stewart and read it. It's a easy read, not technical at all.

As delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787 put their signatures to the document that would become the charter of the infant nation, Benjamin Franklin pointed to the carving of a sun on the back of George Washington’s chair and observed that he had often looked at the carving “without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting.” With months of often contentious debate behind them and the Constitution finally assented to by the delegates, however, Franklin pronounced his satisfaction, declaring that he now had “the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting sun.” After all, the delegates had succeeded, with just a few thousand words, in inventing a new form of government that would prove stable enough and flexible enough to sustain the nation — and its liberties — through more than two centuries of social and political change.

      To the best of my knowledge the Constitution has not been amended to say it can't be amended. At the time it was ratified, the thinking was not the same as it is today even if it was wrong according to today's standards. Unfortunately, nobody has yet invented a time machine that would allow us to go back to the time of our founding and show the Founding Fathers that they were wrong based on today's standards. They were right based on the standards of their time. As The United States has gone through it's history, we have amended the Constitution to bring it in line with current thinking. The 13th Amendment which banned slavery, and the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote are clear examples. If you want to start a campaign to amend it to provide that the President should be appointed by aliens from outer space, go for it! It can be done, if you can get the support. The Founders were absolutely brilliant in the way they put together the way the Constitution controls the Government and how it can be changed.
     My point is that while it was written by a bunch of "Old, slave owning, white guys in whigs", it can be changed at any time to agree with any kind of thinking. Putting that type of disclaimer on copies of the Constitution is about as outrageous as it gets. Think a bunch of whacked out lefties might run Wilder Publications. Nah, I didn't either.
